Chores For The Elderly

Today I volunteered through my school with Chore Corps. Chore Corps is an organization that allows people to do house and yard work for elderly citizens. I spent an hour at two different houses. At the first house, my group did yard work for a man that did not speak English. His daughter was our point of contact and she was not there. The man did not want any help with his yard work so we had to do what we could without his cooperation. The next house we went to belongs to a nice elderly lady. There were about 3 other younger women there who appeared to be her relatives. They were very eager to have us come but it seemed that they had already cleaned the house before we got there. This meant we just went through the house and cleaned an already spotless house.

This experience made me think about whether or not we were actually helping the elders or if we were more of a nucance since the man did not want us there and the lady had cleaned the house for our arrival.
