Muting Guitar Strings

Today I taught myself how to mute the guitar strings while playing with a pick. I decided to attempt to do it after I saw someone else playing the guitar do it. It was harder than expected because it requires me to position my hand in such a way that I can strum with the pick and also use the base of my hands to stop the vibration of all of the strings at once. After hours of practice, I was finally able to do it.
